The red-black leaves of this Alocasia have a striking metallic shimmer, making this rare plant a must-have for many plant lovers. Its coppery sheen gave the plant, which requires a little more attention in care, the scientific name Alocasia cuprea.

Ben's tips on plant care:
• Position/light requirements: partial sun to partial shade
• Substrate: Ben's Babyplant Soil, Spezial Erde, later Ben's Syngonium & Alocasia Soil
• Temperature: optimum at 22-25° C (summer), 18-20° C (winter)
• Watering: keep moist and water as soon as the top layer of substrate starts to dry, but avoid waterlogging
• Humidity: needs high humidity, place in bathroom or use humidifier
• Nutrient addition: in spring/summer every 4-8 weeks with organic fertiliser. Fertilise moderately with organic liquid fertiliser.
• Repot when the soil is densely rooted.
