Alocasia spec. Costa Rica XXL

This stately Alocasia is a real eye-catcher, captivating not only by the size of its arrow-shaped leaves, but also by its pretty leaf pattern with the cream-coloured leaf veins, which contrast richly with the dark green leaves. Due to its preference for warm temperatures and high humidity, it is also well suited for keeping in terrariums from a length of 70cm.

Ben's tips on plant care:

• Position/light requirements: full sun to partial shade
• Substrate: peat-free potting soil, Ben's Syngonium & Alocasia Soil
• Temperature: optimal at 22-28° C (day), 17-21° C (night)
• Watering: Keep soil moist, but avoid waterlogging, ideally water with rainwater that is not too cold and has a low lime content.
• Humidity: needs high humidity, place in bathroom or use humidifier
• Nutrient addition: in spring/summer every 3 weeks with organic fertiliser. Liquid fertiliser
• Grows fast, annual repotting in February/March is recommended.
• Ensure high humidity, ideally spray the plant once a week. It is better to cut off any flowers on young plants, otherwise the plant can rot easily.
